3 Top Ways To Stay Updated

Written by Shaibanii Pressed on October 10th, 2008 - 5:37 pm Filled Under: List

Wanna check a site for updates without going to it and finding out that it hasn’t been updated? Today, I share my 3 top ways on how to stay updated. There are hundreds of ways to do this, but here are the top 3. Here we go…. :-D

1. RSS Feeds

Really Simple Syndication they call it.You know that Icon that looks like this ? That’s an RSS Icon, if you see that, it should mean that there is an RSS Feed available. If you have too many RSS feeds like I do, you can abbreviate them (rename) and re-arrange them like this..

If the site doesn’t have an RSS feed, you can always ask the owner to put one up. :-)

2. Mailing Lists

Not exactly the instant notification option (unlike RSS!), but it works. If you don’t like RSS Feeds for some reason, you can always join the site’s mailing list if they have one. Some sites mail their posts daily, some do it weekly, and some do it monthly; depends on what the site’s about really.

3. Home Tabs

You can set your home page to multiple home pages, and then when you open your browser, there they are! :-D And then you check manually of course.

Q: I have a site and want to add an RSS Feed / Mailing List. How do I do it?

A: You can Google “RSS Feed tutorial” or you can use this one. For mailing lists, I recommend MailPress (for WordPress users), YourMailingListProvider or ListApp.

Me, Myself, and YouTube

Written by Shaibanii Pressed on September 26th, 2008 - 3:39 pm Filled Under: Freedom of Speech

How much is YouTube a part of you? Will your Internet experience be the same without it? No it won’t, because YouTube has become an essential part of our online lives. But what If I told you that there was another video sharing service, would you start going to it for videos? I can guarantee you won’t. Why?

There are 3 types of people in this situation, the user (you), the publisher (possibly you), and the service-owner (definitely not you). I’ll put this in mathematical terms..

Users > Publishers > Service-Owners

Publisher wants users which there are a lot of. Service-Owners (people who own these video sharing services) want both. So the users control everything. YouTube is filled with Users and Publishers constantly posting and interacting etc. Users move, Publishers move, Service-Owners… FUCKED! :-D YouTube’s traffic, database full of videos, everything, is well.. “designed to make you come back”, I remember when I first saw YouTube back in 2005, It was well.. love at first site! :-D I kept coming back for more etc. YouTube grew, and more feeble attempts to copy it popped up, and closed down.

Where should I post my videos?

YouTube! Its the only place anyone goes to watch and upload videos, forget Google Video, Dailymotion, Revver, bla bla bla! Everyone’s doing it! Y-o-u-t-u-b-e-[dot]-com! The quality is good, and its fun to watch people doing crazy things and breaking copyright! Forget everything else! YouTube! YouTube! You-Tube! You-fucking-Tube! Tube-You! You-Tube! Forget anywhere else, its YouTube! YouTube!!!! YOU-Tube! ME-TUBE!! YOUUUUTUBEEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :-)

FeedBurner, Why Should I?

Written by Shaibanii Pressed on September 15th, 2008 - 10:26 am Filled Under: The Internet

Feedburner is a RSS Feed service that allows you to track subscribers, and more awesome features. After I registered’s feed, I thought to myself, I MUST share this awesome-ness :-D

Although you’ve got your blog’s RSS feed, that isn’t enough. You can use it if you want, but you’re missing out on some great features! With Feeburner you can track your subscribers, these are the people that keep coming back for more! :-D Feedburner makes it easier for your readers to subscibe to your feed via other emails, eg. My Yahoo!. Also, you can notify other services or people that you’ve posted something new (Pings). Another thing, you can change your feed without losing subscribers.

There are many other features and add-ons that if you use, you won’t regret it. So ‘How do I do it?‘. Simple, head over to and register, its pretty much self-explanatory. I don’t know if this will work with Cutenews or whatever, but it definitely works with WordPress, Blogger, MySpace, and more services. :-)

Google Chrome

Google Chrome is the newest open source browser. I downloaded it, and used it for a little while. Am I ready to ditch Firefox and use Google Chrome, yes!. Everything on it is viewed the same as it is in Firefox, it’s definitely faster! :-) But IF I move, I’m gonna miss one thing — Plugins. My SiteAdvisor button and SU toolbar, but still its awesome! A post won’t do it justice, go on and download a new browser :-D Let me know what you think ;)
