WordPress.com Goes 2.7

Written by Shaibanii Pressed on December 5th, 2008 - 2:56 pm Filled Under: WordPress

WordPress.com just went 2.7, and this is the reason I’m on self-hosted WordPress.

I got 2.7 on the 1st of November, today it’s the 5th of December, so lets see — that’s 30 + 5 hmm.. 35! :-D

35 days after the first beta came out, WP.com users get 2.7. If, if! I was on WP.com, I wouldn’t be able to stand 2.6 after I read how great 2.7 is. I’ve got nothing against WP.com, I’m just saying - I’m grateful that I’m on self-hosted.

No real purpose for this post, just needed to get it out of my system, lol.

MySpace, WP.com, and More Randomness

Written by Shaibanii Pressed on December 4th, 2008 - 7:14 pm Filled Under: Dear Blog

Dear Blog,

Today I registered to MySpace, and found out that it totally sucks. Facebook is way better and less confusing. :-)

Also my dear blog, WordPres.com will be going 2.7 today. I wonder if that will make me switch to WP.com. I’ve always had this thought in my head, about moving to WordPress.com. I wonder why. Self-hosted has way more features, and I’m gonna end up paying either way, lol.

BYOB - Live in London <– Awesome performance!

I need an iPod Touch before going to Kuwait. With that, I can post here! With photos hopefully :-D

I’m considering switching to Safari, Firefox drives up my blood pressure.

I’m still using my computer without a fan! Ha! Talk about survival :P

I watched Madagascar 2 again yesterday, I absolutely love King Julian. :-D

That’s all for now.

Tangofy

Written by Shaibanii Pressed on December 3rd, 2008 - 9:59 am Filled Under: WordPress

I’m not a big fan of the WordPress 2.7 Icons, so I found the plugin Tangofy.

Now what that does is replace the 2.7 icons with icons from Firefox, GNOME and Tango.

WordPress 2.7 Tangofy

Year PHP Code

Written by Shaibanii Pressed on December 2nd, 2008 - 9:18 pm Filled Under: Randomness

If you wanna use the current year for a copyright statement or whatever and not have to update it every year (if you’re that lazy :P) Here’s how:

If you’re in a WordPress environment:

1
<?php the_time('Y'); ?>

Output: 2008
(Yes, I can execute PHP in my posts.)

And in any normal .php page, you can get the year from your server.

1
<?php echo date('Y'); ?>

Output: 2008
So on exactly 31/12/2008 11:59, it’ll be 2008, and the next minute, well.. you know what’s gonna happen. :-)

6 Shortcuts That Will Make Your XP-erience Faster

Written by Shaibanii Pressed on December 2nd, 2008 - 8:43 pm Filled Under: List

Windows Logo

Ah, I’ve been using XP ever since it came out, and everyone knows it’s not the best OS (speed-wise). Moving your mouse sometimes can make your computer go crashie, but I’ve noticed that using a keyboard shortcut always works! :-)

Note: They’re randomly listed. They work with Vista as well!

  1. Alt + Tab
Arguably, the most popular shortcut of all, you can use it to navigate through open windows. Very useful!
  2. Windows Key + D
Wanna bring all your windows down, simple, hit the Windows Key (the one that opens the Start menu) and D. Down they go!
  3. Ctrl+F5
Very useful Indeed, instead of digging through your browser’s settings to clear your cache, try this for a change!
  4. Shift + Alt
Wanna change to another typing language? Use this shortcut, save you the trouble of going to the language bar.
  5. Alt + F4
Close the current open window. Doesn’t get any simpler than that.
  6. And now for the most useful one (after all this is Windows XP :P)

    Ctrl+Alt+Delete

Frozen? End the process or program that’s freezing the whole OS!

Got anything that you think should be up here? Lemme know in the comments ;D

Iframes Out, PHP In: Revised

Written by Shaibanii Pressed on December 2nd, 2008 - 7:37 pm Filled Under: Tutorials

Iframes Out, PHP In

Ok from what I’ve been told my previous tutorial was too confusing. I’ll do it again. This time I’ll try to make it more detailed.

Yes, you heard me, Iframes out. Yes a site can work without them. Calm down :-| Why would you wanna get rid of Iframes?

1. They’re old
2. Too “limiting”
3. Its harder to get on Google etc. with them.
4. They’re un-professional IMO.
5. They rob scripts of their functionality.

I don’t hate them, I just dislike them.

So this is your index.html page, you should make sure tags are closed, and that there’s only one of the following tags:

  1. <html>…</html>
  2. <head>…</head>
  3. <title>…</title>
  4. <body>…</body>

We think RC1 is ready for everyone to try out. Please download RC1 and help us make the final release the best it can be. As always, back up your blog before upgrading.

Rap, Kids, Movies, and More

Written by Shaibanii Pressed on December 1st, 2008 - 9:55 pm Filled Under: Dear Blog, Freedom of Speech

Dear Blog,

Today, as I was shopping (Yes, I do shop — I’m forced to.) for my “vacation” to Kuwait (It’s cold there.), I came across a toys store. In that toy store, there was this kid (Congrats, you’re famous! :-D) with his mom, playing with a toy. He pressed the button on the toy, and 50 Cent’s In Da Club song started playing. Holy f**k!

Rap, kids, under 5 years old. And there are ratings and restrictions for games, movies, almost every other thing. It drives me crazy! A kid, a boy, a little kid, it’s not even funny — it’s a kid, is allowed to have a toy that at the press of a button plays a verse that contains And you know we don’t give a fuck.

I get asked to show my ID every time I buy a movie ticket (with the exception of Madagascar 2 and G-rated movies, which by the way, is awesome!!), why? To make sure I’m not underage. Obviously. What about the people who aren’t? To make sure the producers don’t get sued for being a bad influence? There are other ways, and nowadays they’re found in a store that only mothers and children enter! (and employees..) Wow.

How awesome? (Sarcasm)
