We all want to lose weight at some point in our lives, but how much you want to lose and how you will be doing that are the big questions. Many times people will complain about how the “healthy” food cost more and that if you are not rich you can not eat healthy. If you want the truth here it is, the thought that you can not eat healthy on a budget is false, anyone can eat healthy and lose weight if they really want to.
Less Sweets are Better
Losing weight has more to do with cutting certain foods out of your diet rather than placing new foods into your diet. One simple cut would be to eliminate non natural and added sugars from your daily diet. On special occasions you can eat a small piece of cake or ice cream but not every day. Many people will drink a few sodas every day, or sweet tea and by simply cutting out those empty calories you could be losing a few pounds or maintaining your weight.
Be sure to look at the ingredients in the food you are purchasing when you go to the store. Just because it seems healthy and without added sugars does not mean it is, for example breads. Many breads will be made with high fructose corn syrup, something you would had thought bread could be made without. Thus in all cases it is in your best interest when wanting to lose weight to read the ingredients.
Water Weight and Salty Foods
One thing that women and sometimes men must be aware of are salty foods, because they will have you weighing and looking more bloated then you really are. Salty foods help our body to retain moisture and thus if your goal is to be slim and fit looking you will fail with salty foods. Not to say you should cut out all salt period, you probably could not if you tried. But not adding salt to your foods would be a good first step, honestly the foods we eat and buy have enough salt in them on their own to meet your bodies needed amounts.
Exercise at Least Three Times a Week
From diet alone some people may be able to fill storage rentals with old clothes, but for others there is one more step. Exercise is needed for most people to lose weight and for all to keep the weight off lost from dieting alone. Both cardiovascular and weight training is needed for a balanced and healthy lifestyle. If you do not like to run then walk, if you do not like to lift weights, then find at home chores that cause you to lift objects.
Both need to be done in order to keep fat at a minimal and to build muscle, the more muscle you have the more calories you burn. Muscles need calories to continue being muscles and thus if you lift weights you will automatically burn more calories and your life just became exponentially easier. The reason you need cardiovascular exercises is not just for your body fat to be minimal but also to help your heart and other organs.
Final Thoughts on a Better Life
There is no doubt that eating better and working out will improve your quality of life, and add years to your life as well. It is not an easy process either, if you are use to eating what you want and not exercising then you have a long bumpy road ahead of you, but it can be done. You do not need weight loss pills but only determination and drive. Once you begin to see results it will be easier, but there will come a time when you stop losing weight for a while. This happens to everyone and you just have to work through it.
If extra motivation is needed join a gym with a friend or clear out a room in your home and purchase your own gym equipment, perhaps just a treadmill. But something that will give you that extra push to keep up the good work. When you clean out that old room you can sell the extras for money to purchase that new piece of equipment or put it in a local storage area such as Chicago StorageMart or somewhere near you. It does not matter just make sure that you do the work, the hard work that is needed for a better and longer life.
Everything you do now and in the future in the area of weight loss and exercise will help you live a longer better quality of life, so do not wait- start now.
